Claire Fargue (20th century)
Biography
Claire Fargue was a Russian artist, very little is known of her life before she emigrated to Paris. From 1921 Claire Fargue exhibited at Salon d'Automne and Salon des Tuileries. However, it was at Salon de l'Araignée that she found her place within the Parisian art scene.
Salon de l'Araignée offered uncontested freedom and independence to painters and designers when it was founded in 1920. Annually the salon attracted some of the most innovative minds of the École de Paris. The community of Russian artists was also well represented, exhibiting works by Claire Fargue alongside Alexandre Alexeieff, Marc Chagall, Chana Orloff, Alexandra Exter, and Marie Vassilieff.
