Kazimierz Zieleniewski (Polish-Russian, 1888-1931)

Biography

Kazimierz Zieleniewski was a Polish-Russian artist. For his involvement in revolutionary activities in the years 1905-1907, he was arrested and sent to prison in Ekaterinburg and later transferred to Tobolsk. He escaped from prison and moved abroad, studying at the universities in Geneva, Paris and the Krakow Academy of Art (1912-1914). In 1915 he graduated from the Vienna Academy of Art.

A year later he travelled through Italy, he also lived and worked in Switzerland where he took part in several exhibitions.

In 1917 he returned to Russia and organised three personal exhibitions in Tomsk. In 1918 he moved to Japan, then settled in France. In Paris, he exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants and Salon d'Automne. He held two solo shows in Parisian galleries in 1927 and 1929.

26 of the artist's works are held in the Tomsk Regional Museum of Art. His painting The Children is in the collection of the Centre Georges Pompidou.
