Sergey Mako (Russian, 1885-1953)
Biography
Sergey Mako was a Russian painter and teacher. He gained his first art qualification at the Art School of Penza and moved to St Petersburg to continue his education.
In 1904 he moved to France, first to Paris and then to Nice in 1908 where he opened his own art school. He participated in exhibitions with the Russian Cubo-Futurist avant-garde group "Koltso" in Kharkiv between 1911 and 1914.
In 1921 his works were included in a Russian Art exhibition at Whitechapel Gallery, London.
In 1923 he settled in Prague, where he established another art school and studio. He exhibited actively and successfully and was the subject of several solo shows in Paris, Nice, and Prague. After an exhibition a Galerie Charpentier (Paris) in 1938, Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume acquired two of his works.
