Adolf Zahel (Czech, 1888-1958)
Biography
Adolf Zahel was a Czech painter. Well educated and well-travelled he exhibited widely at home and abroad from 1912 onwards. He began his studies at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague and continued at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, first under Rudolf Otto von Ottenfeld and later under Max Švabinský. Alongside Pravoslav Kotík, he was a member of the Mánes Union of Fine Arts.
Zahel travelled through Germany, The Netherland, and Belgium in 1911, then Russia, Crimea, and around the Black Sea in 1912. In 1913 he worked in Paris. From 1925 he travelled around the south of Czechia where he painted many landscapes.
